It was dark out, just a little before dawn. Fog hung like a thick blanket over everything, blocking out many things from view, muffling noises, and created it's own atmosphere inside. Beads of dew covered everything, weighing some leaves down and sending the drops plumetting to the ground to join those drops that rested on the long green blades of grass. There was absolutely no noise in the early dawn forest, the birds had settled into their nests to protect their young from the wetness that surrounded, squrrels curled up next to eachother for warmth, rabbits slept in their burrows, and beneath a large oak, it's roots sticking out of the ground around it's trunk, forming many secretive hiding places, a young vixen stirred in her sleep, silver and black pointed coat dampened by the dew and fog that had settled while she was sleeping.
The vixen's ears twicthed as she slowly returned to conciousness, becoming aware of the lack of sound in the forest. Within moments she was blinking her eyes open, black ears now twirling around to try and find some hint of noise. Once her eyes were unfuzzy the vixen lifted her head and looked around, blue eyes wide. At first she panicked when she couldn't hear anything still, but then relaxed when she saw the thick fog that covered everything up and muffled the little noises that would be heard at this hour. She slipped her lithe frame through the roots, eyes half-lidded again with sleepiness. She stretched her front paws out infront of her, a yawn escaping her dainty maw, a hih-pitched whine sounding at the end. She stretched out her back legs also, then shook herself off vigerously, now fully awake. Through her nose she took in a deep breath, then let it out through her maw. Refreshed and happy, she set off at a silent and swift trot in what she hoped was the direction of the Eltrym Tree.
Aysu continued like this for a while, watching as the fog started to thin out and the early morning tinge of orange started to seep across the sky as the sun rushed towards them. her head was filled with memories, purosfully just the good ones, as she did not want to ruin this day by thinking of them. She remembered her first hunt whe she had caught a baby lemming. She remembered the day her siblings and her had run across a field of flowers when they were only a month old, still tuby and silly on their feet. And she remembered her grandmother's stories of the great Eltrym Tree and the wonderous vixen who looked over it. Her thoughts stayed on this until she started to feel something odd in the air. She slowed her pace to a catious walk and cast her blue eyes around, head tilting from side to side and ears perked as she tried to desipher what exactly it was she was sensing.
That's when she stumbled into the clearing. She had been looking the total oppisite direction, but when her gaze returned to what was infront of her, she stopped dead. It was a huge clearing, and in the center of the clearing, was the Eltrym Tree she had heard so many stories about from her grandmother. She gasped in wonder, eyes wide as she stared. It was beautiful. It's branches were full of leaves, it's trunk much wider the her in length. And it was tall. So very, very tall. Mesmerized, Aysu stepped foward lightly. Then another step, another, and another, until she was standing just a few feet from the trunk, head tipped backwards to gze up into the many branches. "Oh, Gran, you were right. It's beautiful....it's lovely....it's....magical...." She said, her voice a low whisper.
